The Centre in association with Department of Philosophy and Comparative Religion, Visva-Bharati organised a three day Workshop cum Seminar. Th program was attended by students and faculty members from various colleges and universities. Workshop cum Seminar: Phenomenology, Science and Religion

19 – 23 August 2019 at Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune

The Centre organised a Workshop cum Seminar on Phenomenology, Science and Religion in association with Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune. The resource persons were Dr V.C. Thomas (Former Professor of Philosophy, Pondicherry University), Dr Kuruvilla Pandikattu (Professor of Philosophy, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth), Dr Nishant (Professor of Philosophy, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth), Dr. Koshy Tharakan (Professor of Philosophy, Goa University).

Worksop cum Seminar: Phenomenology of Time Consciousness – Husserl and Heidegger

28 – 30 January 2019 at Loyola College, Chennai

Centre for Phenomenological Studies in association with the Department of Philosophy, Loyola College, Chennai, organized a three-day workshop aimed at an intensive study of Phenomenology of Time Consciousness – Husserl and Heidegger on 2019 January 28-30. The workshop was open to all scholars interested in the phenomenological philosophy of (Edmund) Husserl and (Martin) Heidegger. Participants had an opportunity to present papers in the workshop. Dr Thomas Kalari (Professor of Philosophy) and Dr V.C. Thomas (Former Professor of Philosophy, Pondicherry University) were the resource persons.

Foundation Course in Phenomenology

1 – 31 October 2017 at Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research, Pondicherry

The Centre organized a month-long foundation course in phenomenology for students and research scholars in philosophy and allied disciplines from October 1 to 31, 2017 in Pondicherry, India. The course provided a comprehensive training in phenomenological themes focusing on the works of Edmund Husserl. Dr V.C. Thomas (Former Professor of Philosophy, Pondicherry University) was the resource person.

Summer Workshop: Making Sense of Heidegger

23 – 25 June 2017 at Socio-religious Centre, Kozhikodu, Kerala

The Centre organized a Summer Workshop on the theme, “Making Sense of Heidegger” in Calicut, Kerala from 23 to 25 June 2017. The workshop had discussions on themes such as temporality, language, questions arising out of a possible III Division of Being and Time, relevance of Heidegger’s reflection on ontotheology and the question of God, technology & ecological concerns, relevance of Heidegger and the political questions for today. The resource persons were: Dr V.C. Thomas (Former Professor of Philosophy, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry), Dr Prasenjit Biswas (Professor of Philosophy, NEHU, Shillong), Dr Thomas Kalari (Professor of Philosophy), Dr Johnson Puthenpurackal, (Professor of Philosophy), Vijnananilayam, Eluru.

Textual Study: An Introduction to Metaphysics

10 to 12 December 2016 at Loyola College, Chennai

The Centre in association with Department of Philosophy, Loyola College, Chennai organised a Textual Study Programme on Heidegger’s seminal work An Introduction to Metaphysics from 10 to 12 December 2016 at Satya Nilayam, Chennai. The workshop was attended by faculty and research scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds. The Resource Persons were Dr V. C. The Centre in association with Sameeksha Research Centre organized a workshop on Towards a Culture of Inter-religious Harmony from 11 to 21 November 2013 at Sameeksha Research Centre, Kalady, Kerala. The key note address was delivered by Sreekala M. Nair, Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy, Sri Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kalady, Kerala. Students of Philosophy from colleges participated in the workshop. The resource persons were: Abdul Rahiman (Professor of Islamic Studies, University of Madras, Chennai), Barani Ganth D. (Professor of Applied Psychology, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry), Bikku Bodi Pala (Madurai), Francis D’ Sa (Professor Emeritus, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune).

The Centre organized three-week Summer Workshop on Phenomenological Philosophy at Asirvanam, Bangalore, from 02 to 22 June 2004. Students pursuing research in the area of Phenomenology participated in the workshop. The workshop was sponsored by Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology (CARP), USA.

Conference: Science of Consciousness, Wisdom, Spirituality and Culture

21 Feb. – 15 March 2001 at Department of Philosophy, Pondicherry University

The Centre organized a three-week summer workshop on The Philosophy of Husserl, Heidegger, and Sartre from 21 February to 15 March 2001 in the Department of Philosophy, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. The programme attracted a large number of students as well as members of faculty pursuing research in the area of phenomenology. The workshop was sponsored by Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology (CARP), USA.The conference was held in the Academic Staff College, Pondicherry University. The programme, which lasted for three weeks, was funded by UGC through Pondicherry University. Eminent scholars from various fields of study were invited as resource persons. Professor N. Sreekandan, (formerly Director, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai), Dr Ananda Reddy, (Director, Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research (SACAR), Pondicherry), Dr N. Majumdar (Professor of ENT, JIPMER, Pondicherry), Dr Prakash Rao, (Director, Central Homeopathic Research Institute, Pondicherry) Dr Gitanjali (Professor of Pharmacology, JIPMER, Pondicherry).

Workshop: The Philosophy of Martin Heidegger

30 October – 20 November 2001 at Academic Centre, ICPR, Lucknow

The workshop was held in the Academic Centre of Indian Council of Philosophical Research(ICPR) at Lucknow from 30th October to 20th November 2001. This three-week workshop, sponsored by ICPR, was led by Dr V. C. Thomas (Professor of Philosophy, Pondicherry University) who delivered lectures on the first division of Being and Time, a principal work of Martin Heidegger. Dr S. Panneerselvam (Professor of Philosophy, University of Madras) and Dr Johnson P. (Professor of Philosophy, Vijnananilayam, Andhra Pradesh), Dr G. Vedaparayana (Professor of Philosophy, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati) were the other resource persons.
